چکیده

tails concerning the anatomists of this period, particularly of John Hunter, whose name does not appear in the volume. The rise of histology, embryology and neurology are all described in Chapter 4 and the book closes with a most stimulating five pages on "current trends in anatomy". Professor Corner is most ardently devoted to his subject and he sees in the immediate future a radical departure from the traditions of the past. He feels that the experimental method must supplant gross and microscopical dissection, if the subject is to keep pace with other branches of medical thought. "Practically all the information," he says, "to be gained by the old basic method of the science, dissection of the human body, was in hand about a hundred years ago. There is very little gross anatomy in current textbooks that was not in those of Charles Bell, Henle or Sappey." (p. 63). Dr. Corner is very plain-spoken and he has faced the present situation of anatomy with a courage and frankness seldom met with among his colleagues. He believes that all anatomists who are worth their salt will become experimentalists. It is clear that his book will provoke lively discussion in many quarters and we recommend it warmly to anyone interested in the future of medicine. -J. F. FULTON.

Influence of Defoliate Pathotype of Verticillium dahliae on Some Physiological and Biochemical Characteristics of Chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum (Ramat.) Kitam)

Verticillium dahliae Kleb.is a soilborne pathogen that cause vascular wilt in chrysanthemumplant (Dendranthema grandiflorum (Ramat.) Kitam). The objective of this research was to study the levels of some organic solutes, such as total protein, total soluble sugars, starch and proline, relative water content, RNA level, malondialdehyde and H2O2 contents in leaves of chrysanthemuminoculated with ...

Enzymatic degradation of Poly (ε-Caprolactone) and Starch blends bontaining SiO2 nanoparticle by Amyloglucosidase and α-Amylase

The aims of the study were to investigate the effect of poly(ε -caprolactone) (PCL) and nano- SiO2 within the thermoplastic starch (TPS) blends on the rate and extent of starch enzymatic hydrolysis using enzymes α-amylase and amyloglucosidase. The results of this study have revealed that blends with nano-SiO2 content at 6 wt% exhibited a significantly reduced rate and exte...

Utilization and Addition Sugars to Ruminants Rations

Responses to sugars in dry or liquid formvary from study to study. When fed in proper amounts, sugars should not depress ruminalpH, and there is some evidence that they actuallyhelp toprevent a drop in pH after consuming largemeals of concentrate by maintaining a highernumberoflactate-fermenting bacteria. Adding sugars doesprioritize the need for rumen degraded protein (RDP).we all know, sugars...

Efficient production of pullulan by Aureobasidium pullulans grown on mixtures of potato starch hydrolysate and sucrose

Pullulan is a natural exopolysaccharide with many useful characteristics. However, pullulan is more costly than other exopolysaccharides, which limits its effective application. The purpose of this study was to adopt a novel mixed-sugar strategy for maximizing pullulan production, mainly using potato starch hydrolysate as a low-cost substrate for liquid-state fermentation by Aureobasidium pullu...

Enhanced aldolase activity and glycolysis as short term effects of hydrogen cyanide for the release of dormancy in walnut kernels

Seed dormancy removal by cold stratification is accompanied by the development of gluconeogenic competence. Although hydrogen cyanide can stimulate the germination of many herbaceous dormant seeds and increase gluconeogenesis in long term, its short-term effects on sugar metabolism require further investigation. Accordingly, an experiment in the form of complete randomized design was carried ou...
